Daniel’s Story

Site created on February 11, 2019

On the evening of May 23, 2018 Daniel went to the ER due to recurring headaches.  After a CT scan the doctor came in and said the words no one ever wants to hear "you have a tumor".  Not only did he have a tumor there were two in his brain and we were transferred to NHRMC main campus.  We spent the next several days in the hospital meeting with different physicians and getting a plan together.  We were told that Daniel needed to have surgery to remove one of the tumors (the larger one) and that was scheduled for May 29th.  Daniel was released and we spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend with family and friends.  Surgery was a success and the tumor was completely removed and the tumor came back as a stage 4 gliosarcoma.  Now we started the next phase of the journey, 6 weeks of Chemo and Radiation to help fight the remaining tumor.  We also reached out to Duke to look for alternatives and explore all our options.  We continued Chemo through the last several months and in Jan we were told that another tumor has grown.  We are now assessing our options to combat this new challenge we have been given.

We will post updates as we can.

Thanks for all the love and support we have received over the last 9 months, you will all never know what that has meant to us.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jennifer Langley

I wanted to jump on and provide everyone with an update.  We have continued to live each day to the fullest as Daniel's energy level allows him to, however he has become increasingly fatigued and confused in the last several weeks.  It makes my heart heavy to share with you all that we have made the decision as a family to enter into the hospice program and enjoy our time together without the hassle of Dr visits and the added fatigue and sickness that the chemo brings. We don't know how much time we have but we will enjoy the small moments in life. This was a very difficult decision for all involved and certainly not one that we took lightly. We also know that this is difficult for our entire support system including all of you who have been there over the last year and a half. Please continue to stop by and say hello and keep the prayers coming as visits are always welcome.  Daniel doesn't always answer his phone so if you are interested in coming by please call or text me first 910-612-7403.  We don't share this to gain sympathy or want you to spend your time grieving for Daniel/us.  We would rather you practice a random act of kindness in Daniel's honor, call someone you haven't spoken to in a while, mend a friendship....   Peace and love to you all for we are not promised tomorrow.
