Hey everyone,
My family wanted to pass along an update on my dad’s treatment. The last time I wrote a post was following an appointment with Dr. Truty in October. At the time we were told my dad’s chemo treatment was working great and the doctor wanted to see my dad complete 2 additional months of chemo. Following this, he would complete 3-5 weeks of radiation and then hopefully discuss surgery to remove the cancer.
My dad was able to finish two months or five infusions of chemo and has advanced onto radiation treatment. The Mayo team recommended 3 weeks of radiation which would take place at Mayo Monday-Friday. My dad works in the morning and then is able to go to Rochester for treatment in the afternoon. He was also prescribed an oral chemo drug to take twice daily during his radiation treatment. Treatment has not been easy on my dad; however, he continues to push forward.
More recently, my dad received a reassuring call from Dr. Truty’s team. They notified him to say we should anticipate surgery at some point in February 2020. My dad is just over a year out from his diagnosis and is very pleased to celebrate the milestone he has worked so hard for. As a family we look forward to what 2020 will bring including a fresh start for my dad.
He will complete his radiation treatment this week and then will take just over a month off from all treatment to gain strength for surgery. He will return to meet with Dr. Truty at the end of January for updated scans and to discuss the specifics of surgery. The amount of support my dad has received over the past year has truly been the biggest blessing to my family. My dad is lucky that he gets to continue visiting with family and friends. It’s wonderful to see life remain as normal as possible with all that has taken place. My dad is getting close to the finish line and it’s finally time to slay the dragon.
Thank you for the ongoing support!
Ashton
