"Dan at the Bat" Chapter 2: Keeping the Faith

Though the updates on Dan's game status has been on pause for awhile, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes to get him back to where he wants to be. To get him ready, it will take more time and patience. Dan is not a guy who simply sits around, he wants to be out and about with the people he knows and loves. He has to fight this battle on all fronts, balancing his medical recommendations with his own desire to go out and be social. COVID is not making this fight any easier. However, Dan pushes through as though everything is good, swinging away, scooping up the ground balls, and making plays!

In the last 5 months Dan has had practice after practice. One practice drill for Dan has been to attack the white mass around his brain by way of 3 infusions of Infliximab (anti-inflammatory antibody). This practice plan will also look to improve the granulomas (small area of inflammation) forming on his lungs and brain. His practice regiment consists of treatments of Prednisone which is a steroid to help reduce inflammation throughout the body.(Yeah-Dan, the baseball guy, is juicin') This medicine has brought down the inflammation in the 7th and 8th complexes of his brain. Normally, Dan-O wouldn't want to be "juicing" with steroids to improve his game, but in this case they are needed and they are working. An MRI here and a spinal tap there has thrown him another off balance pitch (chronic meningitis). This diagnosis causes bouts of intense headaches, nausea, and vomiting. Dan's game play is flawless, smooth, and played with a smile on his face; but the process of preparing for the game has been a grueling one. People don't necessarily see his struggle, but it is real, it is daily.

Brighter Skies Ahead

With his son Drew back in baseball, and son #2 Dustin gearing up for his junior campaign, it is looking to be an even busier time for the Copley family. That certainly won't be easy, but this family knows how to get things done! This year, more than other years, Copley fans and teammates are ready to step up, step in, and do whatever it takes to continue winning The Copley Way!

The world has taught us that nothing is guaranteed and can be clouded by negative energy. We have a pandemic still interrupting daily living, friends drifting apart over political views, and all the other media driven dividers. That is not important. What is important are the the relationships made between people, and building on them. We must keep the faith! Dan is thankful for all the fans in his stands and teammates willing to give it their all to see him succeed and win the fight!

Copley Strong! No one fights alone!
