Dan’s Story

Site created on September 13, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On Friday, September 11th, Dan was doing what he enjoyed the most...taking his best buds on a scooter ride. While on the ride he hit a raised area in the pavement and the scooter fishtailed back and forth before  sliding on its side for almost 75 feet.   Dan remained on the scooter throughout the incident and the pups miraculously didn't suffer a single scratch.  According to witnesses, paramedics arrived and transported Dan from the scene within 10 minutes of the accident.  He was intubated and unconscious when he arrived at Parkland Hospital's Trauma ER department.  The scans and x-rays indicated severe head trauma with a subdural hematoma (blood between the layers of tissue that surround the brain - the dura and arachnoid).  The hematoma was creating pressure on the brain so emergency surgery (craniectomy) was done to remove part of the skull and relieve this pressure, as well as control the bleeding.   A monitor was placed inside the skull for continued observation of the pressure over the next few days/weeks.  In addition to the head trauma, Dan sustained several other injuries:  skull fractures, 2 broken ribs, broken clavicle, bone chip on the hip,  and a fracture of the arm near the shoulder area.  These injuries will not be treated until he is in a more stable condition.  Dan has remained stable since surgery was performed late Friday night - no significant improvemnts but more importantly, no complications.  He is still intubated and heavily sedated to keep him comfortable.  The family is confident the nurses and doctors at Parkland Hsopital are taking excellent care of Dan.  We truly appreciate the outpouring of love and support from family and friends.  We will continue to post a daily update on this website.  All information available to the family regarding Dan's recovery will be shared here so we can ensure friends and family are kept informed.  Please send your love, support, and words of encouragement to Dan on this page under the "Well Wishes" section - soon he will be able to enoy reading these messages during his recovery!  We ask that you continue to keep Danny in your thoughts and prayers.

Newest Update

Journal entry by K & R McMurray

Dear Ones,
The Baldwin families would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for attending both gatherings held for Danny and all those who came to his burial service in Coffeyville. The day started out blustery and rainy, and it turned mild and sunny as his service neared. Danny brought laughter, love, and warmth to those who knew him. We are humbled by the many who came to share their time and stories with us. You have all lightened our sorrow. God bless each of you! Thank you!
