Newest Update

Journal entry by Kaylynn Guidry

I know it has been a while since I have posted but we have been wrapped up in this crazy thing called life. A lot has happened since the summer and my last update.
We have been in and out of the hospital a few times with high ammonia levels. These high ammonia levels caused her to have twitches, weakness, and confusion. The last time she was home for one day before she had to turn around and go back to the hospital. Upon this last visit which was about 2-3 weeks ago we learned that the infusion chemo is not working. If she decided to stay on the chemo it would be multiple and consecutive trips in and out of the hospital. Her liver is not functioning properly which means it is not filtering out the ammonia correctly. The chemo was also causing the ammonia to rise. These issues are causing the ammonia to build up in her body and causing the above-mentioned symptoms.
My Mom and Dad talked to the doctors and they had a decision to make...to keep doing chemo and go back and forth to the hospital due to the ammonia rising in her body or to go home on hospice and live out her days in the comfort of her own home. My Mom decided that she wanted to go home and she didn't want to be in the hospital any longer.
She was sent home on hospice and we had a good 1 1/2-2 weeks with her being sound of mind. Since then she started to get confused. Every day has been a new challenge due to her confusion getting worse. She is now bedridden and sleeping throughout the day and night. She has moments where she wakes up and talks, but she mostly mumbles, and then she goes back to sleep.
I know people have been praying for Mom and the family and all we can ask for is continued prayers. We are so thankful for everyone that has been here and has helped in ANY way. You all have made this journey so much easier on each and every one of us.
