Journal entry by Katie Dewees —
Hello everyone, it's Kaylee again, just thought I would pop on here and give a little update. There isn't a whole lot new since the prior post, we can say no news is good news right? Dad has been tolerating the trach mask 2-3 hours daily quite well. Yesterday he was on the trach mask for 10 hours and he overdid it which caused his vital signs to go all over the place. They had to temporarily restart some sedation medications for his comfort last night but they were such a low dose and he was completely off of them by noon today. When I called to check on Dad around ten tonight the nurse stated he looks great, vital signs are stable and he's only at 35% on the ventilator. The nurse stated he just overdid it yesterday and they will be sure not to let that happen again because these patients have minimal ways to communicate until their vital signs show us otherwise. They let him rest today, didn't do any trach mask weaning but they will continue to do this tomorrow. Dad is the strongest man I know! I can't wait to talk to him!! Thanks so much for all the love, continued thoughts and prayers, keep them coming! :)
