Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support. Thank you for visiting.

I went in for a CT scan on Thursday, 9/13/18. I was called by the doctor the next day saying that I needed to come in urgently. (They even called Vic, no bueno!) We drove straight over to the doctor after I got home from work. I was told that I have malignant carcinoids of the small intestine and that they also saw a spot on my liver. Carcinoids are apparently a very rare form of cancer, but what else could I expect for myself. I already have Lupus, and you know Dr. House says that it's never Lupus. I bet he would say it's never Carcinoids, too, but here I am.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Crystal Dervetski

After my news on the 23rd, I'm happy to say that I am finally getting back to normal, and heading back to work tomorrow, February 13th!!
This means it's been 5 months round trip  from diagnosis to recovery and success.

The last five months have been the absolute worst of my life. Including my own health issues and a brutal recovery from surgery, I lost two friends within a single week. I haven't ever had to deal with so much  physically and emotionally in such a short time span.

I am definitely coming out the other side of this a brand new person. I am coming out of this with an all new appreciation for the people who were actually there for me, and those who supported Vic and I. I am coming back with new friends, and closeness with old friends that is so much more special and reverent. I am coming back knowing first hand how fragile life is, and how quickly life can change.

So please know, it's not the same "me" coming back, and that I can never be the same. But I'm glad to be back and so extremely humbled and grateful.
