Chris’s Story

Site created on March 17, 2020

Hey everyone!

I know there have been a lot of questions recently about the health issues surrounding my father, Chris Holden. I figured this would be a great way to keep everybody updated as to what happened and what is to come in the future with his recovery.

As some of you may be aware, he has had some recent issues with asthma and COPD episodes the past year or two. On Saturday, March 7th, it appeared that he was having another one of these episodes. However, we quickly found out that this wasn't a normal flare up that he was experiencing. His condition was worsening by the minute, and thankfully the doctors and EMT's acted quick and decided to sedate him and move him to a ventilator to try and regulate his breathing. By Sunday morning his lungs were still in bad shape and the doctors had put him in a medically induced coma and kept him on a ventilator.

Throughout the next 9 days in the ICU, Chris kept fighting and kept improving, if only very small improvements. He began to turn the corner for the better later the following week/weekend and the doctors started to feel more comfortable with beginning to take him off sedation and slowly bring him off the ventilator.

I'm very happy to report that I came back down to Portland/Tualatin on Monday the 16th, and had a nice long conversation with Chris....and wow did he ever pick a week and a half to be asleep. It took a little while for me to fully convey the severity of the chaos stemming from the Coronoavirus, but after a few minutes of watching Sportscenter he started to realize what was happening.

He's still very weak and has a long road to full recovery ahead of him as he will need physical therapy after being released from the hospital/ICU in order to build back his strength after being asleep for the last 9 days. I'll be sure to update this site as his recovery continues and I'm sure Chris would love to talk to all of you when he gets a bit stronger. Please don't overload him with calls or texts over the next few days as there is a lot going on and we'd love 100% of his focus to be on his health and recovery as we move forward!

Love to all of you!

First and foremost, thank you so much to everyone who has reached out and shared their well wishes during this entire process. It means so much to Chris and our entire family.

Second, Chris has finally been discharged from the hospital today. His recovery is going extremely well and he's now off to the top physical rehabilitation center in Oregon, where he'll be for the next 1-2 weeks. Will keep everyone updated throughout his PT continues.
