Journal entry by Nikki Martin

Today, 11 months after my dad was diagnosed with cancer, we ran 3.5 miles together. He wanted to run a 5k before the year anniversary of his cancer diagnosis. No official races to run due to covid-19 so we ran our own. No official medals were awarded, but his health is more than any medal that could be earned. My dad is an absolute beast!!

In the past 11 months, my dad had his own race he ran. Not only was he diagnosed with cancer, he is beating it. His cancer scans are clear! He has had two surgeries, 6 long weeks of radiation, with countless scopes, scans and appointments. He has conquered all of it with the strongest and most positive outlook.

The last song that radomly played on our run was Kelly Clarkson's "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." If you know anything about my dad and I, Kelly Clarkson has always been "our" artist. We've shared some really special moments to her music. Today, is no different. Definitely not a coincidence.

I am proud and SO honored to have shared such a special 38 minutes with my dad this morning. I haven't stopped smiling, with a couple overwhelmed emotions as well. I look up to this man SO much. Here's to more health, happiness, and special memories to come! ❤️❤️

Last, but not least....today is national cancer survivor day! As if this day couldn't get more special. ❤️❤️ Love you, dad!
