Good morning! We arrived home safely Monday night from our trip to MD Anderson in Houston, TX. Overall it was a good visit; she had some exhausting, long days but with positive answers.

After all the tests, they didn’t find anymore cancer anywhere! That is a huge praise!

Talking with all 3 doctors yesterday we have a basic plan moving forward. Courtney will finish her current course of chemo here in Pensacola which will take us to June 30. They will then re-evaluate her for surgery at MD Anderson. She may or may not need more radiation; this depends on the pathology results after the surgery. The surgery will be at least 4-6 weeks after chemo ends and,  if radiation is needed, that would be 2 weeks after surgery.

The doctors emphasized to us that she will always be stage 4; but they want to move her from stage 4 metastatic disease to stage 4 no evidence of disease. After they looked at all of her tests results they are very optimistic this will happen. They won’t say cured, healed, or in remission but we can say prayers answered!

THANK YOU for all your prayers!! The Lord is hearing and answering those prayers. We met some new prayer warriors at Christchurch Baptist Fellowship on Sunday that have been at the same facility and some are/have been walking the same road we are. It was such a blessing to find a good church to attend when we can’t be with our church family here in Pensacola.

We have been blessed with great medical care both here and in Texas. Courtney was talking with her nurses and told them how we came to be with her Pensacola oncologist and they said we had the best one for her. What a blessing! The Lord knew and directed our path even when we didn’t know what she needed.

Our journey isn’t over but we are encouraged that we are on the right path for Courtney. Thank you coming along with us!

Good evening! Today (Sunday) we were blessed to attend church here in Houston and rested this afternoon. Yesterday was a fun day; Courtney was feeling good so we did a day trip to Waco, TX and the shops at Magnolia. Thankful for a beautiful day and time we could spend with her.

Saying thank you again for all your prayers seems so inadequate. But we sincerely mean those words. We are incredibly blessed to have so many praying for her and us. Just tonight we had some sweet ladies we met today add her to their prayer lists. What an encouragement that was!

Please continue to pray for her 3 doctor appointments in the morning. The first one is at 8:30.  As of right now, we still can’t go in with her and are hoping to FaceTime for these.

After the last appointment we are planning to head to back to Pensacola. Prayers for our traveling safety are appreciated.

A big thank you to Peter and Emily Freeman for keeping Adam while we were out of town. I think they’re ready for him to go home now. 😜

Friday’s update: Courtney made it through all of her tests on Thursday finally finishing just before 4pm. After resting a couple of hours we took her for supper and quick trip to Target.

Today she had just 2 things on her appointment list and was finished by lunch.

Tonight we got to meet up with some friends for a delicious supper! Thanks Jim and Leah Gillem!

Good morning! We made it safely to Houston yesterday afternoon and today begins a long day of tests for Courtney. Her doctors added another one on yesterday so her day starts at 7:10 am and, if everything is on time, will end at 3pm. They are being very thorough and we look forward to hearing what the doctors have to say on Monday.

Please pray for her to have the physical and mental stamina she needs for today.

We want to say a big thank you to a couple of friends for some generous gifts for our trip to Texas. Thank you!!! You are such an encouragement to us!

Good evening! First I want to say thank you to all who have checked in with us to see how Courtney is doing and let us know you have been praying for her. She had several good days in a row before chemo this past Wednesday (April 21).

With this chemo she also received a bone strengthening infusion. The back is a common place for breast cancer to metastasize to, and hers has already done this, so her oncologists are wanting to strengthen her bones. She was in a lot of pain both Thursday and Friday from this infusion. Thankfully on Saturday it eased and she was able to rest easier. Today, Sunday, she has felt pretty good and was able to attend both services.

Wednesday morning we will be driving to Houston for testing on Thursday and Friday at MD Anderson. Monday morning she will have 3 doctors appointments and then we plan to head back to Pensacola.

We have a few prayer requests for our trip. Right now she can’t have a support person with her for the appointments. We can try to FaceTime in but she would really like at least one of with her; pray that this policy will change. She will be meeting with her surgeon and discussing surgery-how extensive and when, the radiologist to find out if further radiation is needed, and her oncologist that we’ve been meeting with via telehealth visits. Pray for us to absorb this information and ask the necessary questions while we have the doctor’s attention.

Please also pray for safety as we travel there and back.

There are a lot of thoughts going through our minds as prepare for this trip. So thankful for all of your prayers that will go with us as we continue traveling this unknown road. We don’t know tomorrow but our God does.

We had a follow-up visit with MD Andersen today. An in-person visit for the end of April is what we are planning for right now. Their oncologist was encouraged to see how Courtney has responded to the chemo and he is wanting to continue an aggressive treatment plan for her cancer. She will have a day of testing followed by a day of doctor appointments when we get to Houston.

She has felt really good for several days now; her headaches have pretty much disappeared.  She has a good appetite but struggles finding food that tastes “like it’s supposed to.”
What works one day doesn’t the next. 🤷‍♀️🤪 It’s been such a blessing to have had several days that have felt so “normal”!

Thank you all for your continued prayers on Courtney’s behalf! I believe we are seeing those prayers answered with how she has responded to treatment and how she has recovered her strength after some really tough days.

One prayer request we have is that someone will be allowed to accompany her to all of the appointments at MD Andersen. That second set of eyes and ears in so invaluable at these appointments!

For this week, we are planning for chemo on Wednesday and Neupogen shots on Thursday and Friday. (I never thought I would become fluent in so many medical terms!)

Good evening! Courtney’s chemo was canceled today by her doctor after he looked over her labs this morning. Yesterday when she went for the PET scan they drew labs which showed her white count was low. This morning’s labs had another drop. So...chemo is postponed until next Wednesday.

Her PET scan was good! No new
metastasis and the spot on her sacrum showed no signs of cancer. She has regained a couple of pounds that she lost over the last 2 weeks.

When she has her next treatments, they will give her Neupogen shots the 2 days after treatment to help her white counts stabilize.

Overall it was a good visit and it was a blessing to get a week off from chemo. Courtney has felt good  and been eating well for several days now and her severe headaches have subsided. We’re not sure if it’s from the switch in chemo’s or the increase with her preventative meds; either way we like it!

Thank you so much for all your prayers, cards, gifts, and other ways you have reached to our family! We sincerely appreciate it all!

“Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”

Just wanted to update everyone on today’s doctor visit. Courtney’s counts had improved enough that the doctor went ahead with her chemo treatment today. We asked the doctor if skipping the Neulasta shot was why she needed the blood transfusion on Friday and he said no. He felt like it was just the result of the 8 weeks of the aggressive treatment she had finished.

As part of the new treatments, she gets Benadryl through her IV. They are going to decrease this dosage next time since she got pretty nauseous from it today. She slept most of the afternoon from the Benadryl. Chemo will now be weekly for the next 12 weeks.

Next week they will be redoing her PET scan to see how effective the treatments have been so far.

Thank you again for all your prayers on Courtney’s behalf. Today when she was feeling nervous about chemo, I reminded her of all the people praying for her this morning. We don’t know what tomorrow holds and what’s next on this journey, but our God does!
