Newest Update

Journal entry by Cortney McKenna

Friends,
I AM ON TOP OF THE WORLD! I just met with my oncologist to discuss my most recent scans. There are 2 parts to my good news and boy is it GOOD!

The first is my scans were COMPLETELY STABLE. He said there is no hypertension or T2 flair. Basically, my brain is COMPLETELY CLEAN. The chemo and radiation were worth the battle. He said my brain looks beautiful, then he chuckled and said, " Your brain looks beautiful minus that chunk we removed!" Haha! He said I am still immune compromised but that in a few months he's confident I won't be!

As if all of  that is not good enough I got additional AMAZING news. My oncologist is huge into research and clinical trials and he's really good at what he does; in fact he's one of the best in his field. Anyway, I am bragging! He said that they recently discovered that people with my type of idh mutation cancer are broken into two groups. One of these groups has a HOMOZYGOUS DELETION and the other does not. The group with the deletion has a poorer prognosis. He said those people have a prognosis of 5-7 years. He said the other group WITHOUT the deletion have a MUCH better prognosis. A median survival of 14-17 years. I am in the group WITHOUT the deletion. In addition, he said I am already doing MUCH better than the median because mine returned as the same grade it was the first time and responded beautifully to the treatment. He said it is a well behaved cancer. He said my prognosis is looking MUCH MUCH MUCH better than it did 1 year ago. So much so, that he said he's pretty confident I will live many many years unless something else were to take me. However, this tumor will not be taking me ANYTIME Soon. He said he sees a bright future for me filled with children and lots of opportunities! Next step is just scans every 3 months for 2-3 years and then they become less frequent after that.

I can't tell you the weight that was taken off of me. I am seriously ON TOP OF THE WORLD.  I beat this beast! Cancer messed with the wrong chick. My DNA is TOO strong. Overall, this all falls back to how amazing God is if you trust him. After this my outlook on life is so different ( in a good way) and my faith is so much stronger!
I could not have done this without all of you! Seriously! What an army I have! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!
