Corbin’s Story

Site created on April 10, 2022

In early April I was diagnosed with stage 2 gastric cancer. Following surgery in June, that was revised to stage 3 because there was local spread to 11 nodes the lymphatic system.

The current plan has been 8 weeks of intensive chemotherapy. This will be followed by surgery to remove a portion of my stomach, my gallbladder, and area lymph nodes. After recovering from surgery, I will finish with another 8 week course of chemotherapy.

My mood so far has been elevated and peaceful, and I am everyday reminded of the gentle hand of God’s providence in my life. I have been given a fighting chance—a gift not everyone receives—and I’m ready to fight like hell. I am everyday heartened and humbled by the outpouring of support in an encouraging text, a hot meal, or help getting our 3 kids to wherever they need to be. You all are a powerful tool keeping my morale high and helping me marshal all my energy into this fight.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Journal entry by Melissa Boekhaus

Wanted to update everyone that Corbin will get his chemoport out this Wednesday! We are so thankful his oncologist is allowing him to get it out. He wouldn’t allow it after chemo finished because heexpected him to need more treatment. We are praying we never need it again. Please pray for calmness prior to surgery and that he has a quick/easy recovery.  Thanks for the prayers!
