This morning I watched Connor sleep for a while. I went in there to check on him sleeping, as I have been doing each night- sometimes multiple times. When he is asleep and looking so peaceful, it relieves a lot of my anxiety and stress. I can feel myself getting lighter in these moments.

It’s a fast track to worry and confusion, disappointment and fear. There are feelings I get that I want to fight away but I have been able to find support in my community and a place to add my voice. I trust that I get these indications for a reason and that I am part of a bigger purpose here - do my part well and the whole process has a better chance at succeeding.

Back to Connor, still in his slumber now - what he needs most is medical research. There is no cure for epilepsy. It will stay with him for the rest of his life. We have asked ourselves, what steps can we take now to improve his chances of avoiding setbacks? How do we best advocate for him?

Working closely with the Epilepsy Foundation, we are committed to seizure first aid training and community meet-ups to build up seizure awareness in the Brainerd Lakes Area. We want to pursue the goal of togetherness and we want to reach further. We have set our sights on if we can achieve a balance within our own lives, creating an equilibrium that allows Connor, and others living with epilepsy, to have complete seizure control.
