Journal entry by Nicki Sitlinger —
After having to sit out last year, I am beyond excited to share Connor started his college experience at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio!
Diagnosed Jan 2020 in his senior year of high school with ALL, he’s been through so much with aggressive cancer treatment, setbacks along the way, and still continues his battle through maintenance chemo.
There are no words to voice how proud of him we are and how much he has taught us through his courage, trust, humor, grace, and kindness. It’s hard for me to express, but I am not tearful from him leaving home (well, maybe a little), but so very excited that he’s gotten to this point and can do all of the wonderful things at Miami he’s destined for. My anxieties come from uncertainty and the harsh reality from the impact of cancer treatment. Fear of him having physical ability and endurance to get to classes, mental ability to focus and excel, and strength of immunity to protect him, not just from COVID but all of the millions of viruses that can derail his progress in a second.
All of this to ask for help to cover Connor with positive thoughts and prayers for the safest and most successful school year possible (plus, it’s his birthday today). He’s definitely earned this opportunity and we are so grateful he gets to grab it!
Sending prayers for safety for all students and faculty this fall — they all deserve so much to have as normal of a year as possible.
Thankful for your support & love, it helps carry us❤️ Shay, Kell, Connor and Collin
