Newest Update

Journal entry by Lindsey Smit

Hello everyone! It has been a while since we have given updates, and for that we are sincerely sorry! It has been a crazy few weeks lately with our Superman! Colton has had 2 brain surgeries in the past two weeks. His head circumference had started to grow pretty rapidly, and his soft spots were starting to bulge, all signs of increased intercranial pressure. After some testing, it was determined that the damage from the meningitis impacted the drainage system in Colton’s brain, and the fluids in his brain don’t drain and circulate like they should. The doctor had to go in and create holes in the ventricles and the cysts left from the meningitis and he also put in a reservoir (or access port) in his skull so his pressures and fluids can be monitored.
Through all of this, Colton has remained just as happy and smiley as he usually is, and we are amazed at how well he has recovered from each surgery. He may have to have a shunt put in to keep draining everything, but the doctor isnt completely sure yet if he needs it. Please keep Colton in your prayers that this will be his last surgery!
