SOOO...Long story short, is that I've fought off not having neck surgery for a long as I could. About a month ago, I woke up screaming in the middle of the night with a pinched nerve in my left shoulder blade area, and ended up in the hospital with severe pain and muscle loss.  I have lost 70% tricep function and partial control of my left hand. This is caused from having 3 bone spurs impinging my spinal cord along with severe spinal stenosis and a herniated disc from C3-T1.  I've seen several Top Neurologist and Orthopedic surgeons through the years and they had all said the same thing to me that I will definitely need surgery.  After seeing a Neurosurgeon at Mayo and then one at BNI - Barrows Neurological Institute, my husband and I made the decision to go with Dr Barranco, Chief of Neurology, at Barrow Neurological Institute.  Dr Barranco, suggest that I have a four-level ACDF Anterior Cervical Discectomy Fusion on my Cervical Neck C3-C4, C4-C5, C5-C6, C6-T1.  Surgery will be on Tuesday, April 28 with a check in time of 5:30am.  Due to Covid-19, Hospitals only allow the patient to be in the hospital at this time. Therefore, my amazing family/friends will not be able to hold my hand for this one. Looks like it's just Me and God rolling with this one this time around. I'm praying he'll keep me calm, safe, and heal me completely all the way through. 🙏

I am pretty scared and would really appreciate all prayer warriors to please pray for comfort & safety for me and my family while I go through this big surgery. 🙏

Braun will keep you all updated. :)

Praying for all of your safety as well xoxo

Love & Hugs to you all,
Colleen

Day 6 Post-Op

First of all, I have to say that my husband has been the best care taker ever 💜 I'm so lucky to have him ♥️ Family & Friends have been so supportive with their prayers, warm well wishes, thoughtful gifts, thoughtful offers for food, errands or whatever our need may be. We are so grateful for it all! 💜 Also, I  love all the wonderful video phone calls/texts and cards you all have sent too. Gosh, I'm truly so overwhelmed with all the love and support you all have shown me.  I'm not sure what I did right to deserve you all, but I'm very Thankful to God for bringing you all into my life ♥️ 🙏
love you all

I'm glad I finally was brave enough to have gone through with the surgery so that one day soon 🙏 will bring me out of pain and correct this messed up neck of mine.  I want this not only for myself, but for my family and loved ones that have had to put up with me living in pain for all these years. I'm sure there were many times I was a pain in their neck and it's time for them to have a break too 😅  ♥️

So, on day 6, post-op surgery - I think I'm doing pretty good overall.  Although, the pain and stiffness is still definitely trying to take me out! !😜 The pain can be quite exhausting and that's when I practice my breathing and try to relax my mind a bit. I also use ice to help relieve the pain as well.  I get very anguish the closer it gets to night time due to the pain intensity during this time.   My body is so tired, but hurts worse when it' needs to be still.  If I sit or lay for too long, then my neck, shoulders and back stiffens up and causes great pain.  The collar I need to wear 24/7 is a pain in the neck, Literally! It's super challenging to have to keep your head looking straight ahead and not look down or put your head back in any movement.  I'm trying my best to be good about it, but its not very easy, especially when it causes great pain.

I remind myself daily that this is only my first week of recovery and I will start to feel better soon. God has been so good to me, and I know he will keep me together to get through this challenging recovery.

Thanks for listening friends xo I know there's always many people to be praying for, but if you happen to have any spare time, please continue to pray 🙏 for healing, strength and pain relief for me...Ohh and also, for my left hand to regain strength and functionality again.  Thank you and Goodnight💤

Love Always,
Colleen
