Newest Update

Journal entry by Kirk Warner

There’s good reason to celebrate tonight. It appears the problem has been solved.  Coles bladder is very large and capable of retaining 1,000 cc’s + of urine. If too much urine collects in his bladder there is enough back pressure to force the liquid back up his ureter to his new kidney causing the hydronephrosis. This is much easier now due to the fact that his new kidney sits almost horizontal to his bladder and doesn’t have far to travel up the ureter to get back to the kidney.  This was never an issue before due to his kidneys being 8-10” above his bladder.  Not so easy, even with back pressure, to force urine into his kidneys at that point.  After the surgery it was made much easier by lowering his kidney and turning it sideways with the ureter almost running horizontally to it.  In addition a stent was put in from his kidney to his bladder leaving his ureter wide open for the urine to flow backwards to his bladder if too full.  His stent was removed yesterday and all of the numbers that were dropping have stabilized.  They haven’t got better but stopped getting worse.  This is a good sign. Because of this we were let go to be home for a few days.  We are home now.  They have changed four of his meds to help with the issues and this Friday we’ll be back in GR for a full days of tests to make sure all numbers are now getting better and not just staying stabilized.  We’ll all feel cole looks great now and that this is the exact issue.  As long as the numbers look great we’ll be back to his normal two blood draws and appointments next week. We’ll have to continue to have him go urinate every 2 hours for at least 2 months and 6 hours through the night in order to retrain his bladder to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Small price to pay for another chance at life.  Thank you all for the prayers. I’ll probably only continue all of these updates if something ever changes for the worse.  Prayer certainly works and my entire family can feel it.  We have about 3-4 weeks of isolation time left and then we can all go Back to our normal lives. Much love to you all for your support!  ❤️
