Cody’s Story

Site created on August 17, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Cody was diagnosed with ALS on February 27th, 2018.  The disease has progressed much more rapidly than anyone had guessed it would, so we scramble at times to keep up with e-mails, phone calls, visits, etc.  This site is to help consolidate some of these updates so we can spend more time with Mom.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Alexi van Heerden

It is with a heavy heart that we are writing you all today.  Cody passed away yesterday, September 12, 2018 around 4pm.  She is finally at peace and no longer in pain.  We are at home with our dogs and processing our new reality.  It is a comfort to know that mom took great joy in the natural world, right up until she shut her eyes for the last time.  We know that she will be with us anytime we step outside and feel the sun and breeze on our faces and the moss under our feet.

Thank you all for your continued support and for being such good friends to Cody.  She loved all of you and appreciated every kind word and gesture.  She so enjoyed the directed meditations and could feel the power of all of your positive thoughts while we sat outside and soaked in the good energy.

We will make an announcement when we have finalized a plan for a memorial service.

For those of you that signed up to make dinners via LotsaHelpingHands, thank you so much for all you have done. .  If you would still like to make something, please contact Alexi via text at 207 266 9881.
