Tony’s Story

Site created on November 20, 2021

Last Friday, November 12th, Tony tested positive for Covid 19. The symptoms were basic fatigue and aches and pains. On Wednesday, November 17th, Tony had problems with coughing and went to UC West Chester and was admitted for tests. On Thursday, November 18th, the x-rays came back that he had Covid Pneumonia. They moved him to the "step down unit" where he gets closer monitoring. They have him on a CPAP machine to help with his breathing, steroids to help with inflammation and anxiety medication to help with the claustrophobia that comes from wearing the mask. On Friday the nurse said he slept all day which is really good. His numbers remain stable and we'll start posting them here for anyone in the medical field who wants to check them out. Today, Saturday, he was able to FaceTime with the three kids. He wasn't able to speak but they made sure he knew that all of you are praying for and thinking about him. Please use this space to leave messages. Even though he can't talk with the cpap, he should be able to read these, or someone can read the posts to him as well.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jake Michalak

Hi everyone,

This is Kylie. We hope everyone has enjoyed the Holidays so far. We have been getting many calls and texts from friends and family looking for updates on my dad, so we thought we would send out a quick post to recap the last (almost) two weeks.

He is obviously happy to be home and is currently getting in home care from a nurse, PT, and OT, all coming twice a week for right now. While his speech is improving, his breathing after activity is still fairly slow. He did feel good yesterday, as he walked for 2.5 minutes straight before having to rest. His primary care doctor also adjusted his medication in hopes of improving his breathing. Once again, thank you from all of us for everything and Happy Holidays.
