Journal entry by chris patterson

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on Clay.  He had his regular monthly check up at MUSC yesterday and he got a great report.  His platelets were at 165K and hemoglobin was at 15.1.  These are the best numbers he's had since he was first diagnosed in 2019.  He had no signs of any chronic GVHD and his organ functions are perfectly normal.  Dr. Hudspeth and the nurses were so happy with his progress and where he is right now.

He has had as good of a senior year as any kid could during these crazy COVID times.  This spring he is able to play baseball for Oakbrook again.  That really seemed like a far off dream a year ago at this time.  He's playing pitcher, catcher, and 2B.   Whenever Beth and I get a little overprotective, he's quick to remind us that he's as healthy as anyone else on the team.  We just get out of the way and let him do his thing.

Recently, Clay got accepted to USC-Honors College and will be joining Will and Drew in Columbia this fall.  All of us know how blessed we are and are so thankful to God for watching over Clay through this whole process.  We are looking forward to the two year mark of his bone marrow transplant this November when he will have his next chimerism test and he puts another hurdle behind him.  Thanks for your continued prayers.....
