Journal entry by Cindy Young

                                                                             TRANSPLANT ROUND 2

A lot has happened since my last journal entry.  While I was in the hospital in June, we sold our home that we had lived in for 39 years.  You can imagine all the pitching and packing that had to be done.  I did some packing prior to my admission  and finished up the rest after my release with the help of family and friends.  We are building a new home outside of Hamburg, and currently are living with our oldest daughter, Nikki, and her family.  We should be moved into our home around the first of October.  Very exciting times!

Right now I am back in St. Francis Hospital for a tandem transplant, which was planned but I was hoping not to do.  The doctors felt that since I am so young and healthy (so glad to hear 60 is young 🥳) and since my cancer was so advanced that a second transplant within 90 days would help keep me cancer free longer.  Since I want to be totally cancer free, I'm all in.

I was admitted on September 8th and received chemo  (Melphalan) on the 8th and the 9th.  While receiving my first dose of chemo,  Fr. George came into my room to  visit and gave me the sacrament of the anointing of the sick and first communion.  What a powerful way to start treatment! 🙏.

Yesterday,  on the 10th I had another stem cell transplant.

No side effects from the chemo, so far, those will probably hit after the weekend.

The doctors seem to think I will tolerate this round better than the first because I am mentally prepared.  I'm going with that!

The only complaint I have about St. Francis is the food. This time I did some meal prepping and brought my own meals.

I must say the staff is the best here.  The nurses love what they do and it shows.  It has been nice to see most all of them again.  Here's a picture of my cup on my first day. The nurse wrote a powerful message.

Thank you for your continued prayers and well wishes.  🥰😘
