Journal entry by Christy Brown

I'm not really even sure how to start.  It's been such a whirlwind. A routine mammogram and u/s on 10/30 revealed what looked like a small cyst. On 11/11 I was sent to the Breast Health Center for an ultrasound. As the tech began to u/s my axilla and neck I knew something was wrong. I was taken immediately up to my surgeon, Dr Randy Cooper, who is so wonderful. Even in this time he put me at ease, has kept in close contact getting me results just minutes to hours after tests. The biopsy of the axillary lymph node came back Stage 3 Triple negative Cancer. However the biopsy of the mass was benign. I then had to go to the Breast Center for a 2nd biopsy that again was negative. Because the mass itself is so small it is difficult to get a good sample. It's so crazy to me that something so small can spread so fast. The PET Scan was delayed almost a week due to problems with the machine. Waiting to get the results has been one of the most difficult times of my life. I'm so thankful for everyone that has reached out with encouraging words and especially prayers. God has been faithful during this difficult time. Dr Cooper called me today only a few hours after the PET scan to let me know there is extensive axillary involvement and one supraclavicular node but no further spread!  PRAISE God!  It has been such a weight lifted off of me. I know that this going to be difficult, there will be dark and difficult days. But I know God has me in his hand and is drawing me closer to him daily. I meet with the Oncologist again tomorrow. She was waiting fort the PET Scan results but when we met earlier in the week the plan was Chemo to begin ASAP, surgery then radiation.   So far on my journey I've been blessed with so many encouraging people, including a Vet Tech when I took my dog to get checked out. Her mom had been through this with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. On my print out for my bill she wrote that she was praying for me. That it will be rough and sometimes very rough but that I am strong enough through God to come out a warrior. She also shared her mom's favorite verse while traveling this journey that too many women have had to tread  " Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow or your wings until the disaster has passed." Psalm 57:1.   My prayer is that through this He will draw me closer daily to Him.
