Journal entry by Rose Merrill

Hi all, well today is day 60 or I believe 62.  Chris was admitted on April 16th for his surgery and it has been a long haul since that time.  As of lately, he is doing really well.  His voice is almost back to almost normal, they discontinued his feeding tube and his neck wound is all healed.  He is learning what he can eat and what he should not eat and the amount of food that is just the right amount for intake.  This has been a bit of a challenge and a learning process but he is getting the hang of it.  Right now everything is ground up since he is unable to swallow solid foods really well yet.  We have a grocery list that has some new tastes for his pallet.

He is ready to be homeward bound.  He will be released on Friday, June 18th in the afternoon from St. T. and will be going HOME!!!!  Tom and I will be bringing him home and getting him settled into his new normal. No feeding tube and only visits to his speech therapist are scheduled for now.  Chris is working daily on his strength exercises to get back to normal.  He also has an appointment on Monday to get the feeding tube removed by the surgeon.....yeah...

I want to Thank You all... for being on this journey with me.  Just writing and sharing about it has made this process more manageable at times.  I appreciate all the care and support that you have provided me and Chris throughout.  Your cards and gifts were graciously appreciated and in the weeks to come, please reach out to Chris.  He will need some company since he will not be bugged by the many folks that have cared for him during his medical stays.

Again, Thanks Everyone!!!
