Christopher’s Story

Site created on February 29, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Friday morning (2/28/2020) I took Chris to the ER believing he had the flu. When his white blood count came back extremely high, we were transferred to OLOL Children’s Hospital. There it was confirmed that Chris has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. (ALL). He will be going to St. Jude Hospital in Memphis for more testing and treatment. We have been told we will be there about 4 to 6 weeks. I will try to post updates on a regular basis.

Update: He will not be released today. They are going to have do surgery to move the line back down into place. It migrated up in such a way that it can receive fluids but will not allow blood draws. I’m not sure if they can get him on the schedule today or if it will be tomorrow. One day at a time.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Darla Capello

The Orthopedic Specialist confirmed today that Chris’ feet, ankles and lower tibias have some damage from Avascular Bone Necrosis. Thankfully his hips and shoulders do not show damage and there has not been any collapse of the bones that are damaged. We are going to get some nighttime and daytime braces to help support his legs. Hopefully, they will heal with time. If they do not heal or if they get worse he may have to have bone graft surgery. For now, we support the legs, do some stretching therapy and watch things.

Even in the best-case scenario, though, it is going to take months and possibly years for the bones to heal. My shoulders and back are getting worse though. So I'm praying for the right home and vehicle for us as well as a dependable source of income. I do not doubt that God will provide.
