Christina’s Story

Site created on December 25, 2017

My life forever changed on the morning of December 7th, 2017 when  I was told I had breast cancer after finding a lump in my left breast. “TiTi” (as my nieces call me) is anxious to start treatment and move on with life with the support of God, family, friends, and an amazing team of doctors.

Journal entry by Christina Avlas

This year went by so fast!

At this time last year I was nervously and anxiously awaiting my treatment for breast cancer to begin at age 34. I was injecting myself nightly with hormones in preparation to freeze my eggs. In 2018 I went through 18 weeks of chemo, 2 surgeries, 30 days of radiation, and will continue to receive Herceptin infusions until March 2019. I’m at that point where the struggles of treatment are becoming a distant memory.

I’m thankful every day that treatment was successful and that I am still here. I am so grateful to each of my doctors for the outstanding and compassionate care I received. I’m so happy I get to be “Titi” to my 2 nieces and will meet my 3rd niece in April! I’m excited to marry my best friend and can’t believe as of today we’ve been engaged for 1 year!

Life is so precious and is a gift. Take time to appreciate it and the important people that are a part of it every day.

Happy New Year!!
