Newest Update

Journal entry by Chrissy Powers

Hello everyone!

I am so sorry for the long wait between posts! I have just been so busy with life that I haven't had the time to update you.

It has been quite the journey so far, and it has been so eye opening for me. The love and support from everyone has truly opened my eyes to kindness I never knew. I cannot thank you all enough for everything you have given to me through words of encouragement, meals, or friendly smiles! So I have some good news for all of you.

Last week, I had a bone marrow biopsy and PET scan to check my progress. After 6 rounds of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, I AM IN 100% REMISSION. That's right, you read it correctly. The tumor in my spleen is gone, the lymph nodes that once lit up are dim, and the bone marrow is just that, marrow, no more cancer. I have been fighting hard, and all of our prayers have been answered! From here, I will do be doing immunologic maintenance therapy to keep my bone marrow in check for the next two years, but no more chemo. There was talk of taking my spleen out, but for now, it's mine and I'm keeping it! There is a small chance of recurrence since I did have stage IV cancer, but for now, I am clear and that's all I will think about!

These last 7 months have been crazy. Finding out I have cancer, closing up my flower shop, and now being in remission. God works in mysterious ways, and this was a wake up call for me. I have learned to slow down, appreciate all of the tiny things that make me smile, enjoy my time with friends and family, and, most importantly, enjoy the life I have.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out through text, caring bridge, facebook, and in person. Thank you to everyone who has sent prayers up to the Big Man upstairs. Thank you to my family for everything they have done. I know this has not been easy on them either, and I cannot put into words my appreciation for them. I love you all.

For the last time for now,
Keep your prayers high and your fingers crossed

Chrissy.
