Newest Update

Journal entry by Lynne Zell

Hi everyone! I wanted to update you on Chris and also let you know about a special event coming up to further support him and his family.

The latest news isn't the best or the worst, it's still a lot of unknown. Since our last update, Chris has endured chronic pneumonia and another bout with Covid. Thankfully a huge dose of steroids allowed him to feel healthy enough to travel to Europe with his family, continuing from a previous Europe trip his life goal to follow the footsteps of Van Gogh in Amsterdam, Belgium and France. Chris painted some of Van Gogh's favorite spots and took long walks by himself where Van Gogh would have also walked in contemplation. A highlight of the trip was being back in Paris after 20 years with his wife, Julie. Paris was the start of their love story and celebrating there, along with their son and daughter, was a success of all their memories together.
After they came home, Chris was again not feeling well and went in for a few new tests. One of the scans showed new activity in both lungs, albeit inconclusive, and they are continuing to treat him for pneumonia while also exploring the possibility of a new clinical trial that was recently approved at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
All of these unknowns have led to an increased worry, stress and anxiety within Chris and he often finds himself struggling to breathe or to find peace. To stay positive he surrounds himself with his friends and family, continues to paint, and openly talks about his challenges and his continued drive to choose life.

One group that he is now walking with in this journey is the Friendship Paddle. Chris has been chosen as the beneficiary of this year's fundraising efforts and he will join the team of supporters by paddling across the Santa Barbara Channel on Saturday, September 17. Chris and Julie are so impressed by this new community they have gained, expanding their tribe and uplifting their family both emotionally and financially. The love just keeps coming, and it's helping. Please consider donating to The Friendship Paddle to show appreciation for the organization and all they do for warriors like Chris.
