Chris’s Story

Site created on September 23, 2020

Chris, was recently diagnosed with "at least" stage III cancer.  Esthsioneuroblastoma is a very rare cancer (only 700 known cases in the country) whereby the tumor starts in the olfactory nerve in the cranial cavity and makes its way down to the sinus cavities. It can spread into the brain, eyes, lymph nodes, and other parts of the body. He is having surgery this morning, which will be followed by radiation and possible chemo.
We are singing praises to our awesome God that his cancer appears not to have metastasized into other organs.
We are so grateful for the phone calls, texts, and sweet notes, but we are especially grateful for the many, many prayers that have gone up on our behalf.  Thank you!!!
Please continue to pray for Chris, his medical team and those of us who love him so very much as we go through this season. We continue to trust our Savior as we take this day by day. So much  love and thanks to you all❤️

Newest Update

Journal entry by Fran Todd

Chris is moving into his 5th week of radiation and has 14 sessions to go. Many changes have taken place since my last update in October.  I know…I am the absolute worst about posting updates…I’m sorry.

While I had the pleasure of spending Thanksgiving week with Chris in Atlanta, it was not the traditional holiday celebration for us.  He is feeling the effects of the radiation much earlier than he was told he would. So much so, his oncologist has reduced the intensity of treatments. And though he has been shaving his head for a while now, chunks of his beautiful beard started falling out last week. He is unable to eat anything other than Ensure, Boost and smoothies due to the painful ulcers that have formed in his mouth, throat and nose.  This, along with a substantial drop in energy level, has made it impossible to work, so he is watching a lot of television and not-so-patiently waiting for 2021 to arrive.

On a positive note, Chris has been doing research on service dogs. Due to the removal of his olfactory nerves, he has permanently lost his sense of smell. Therefore, he is unable to smell smoke, gas leaks, electrical fire, bad food, etc.  Aside from the tremendous healing effects of owning a companion animal, having a dog that has been trained to alert him to such dangers would truly be advantageous.  Although this new adventure won’t be happening right away, it is something to look forward to.

We thank you for your continued prayers and words of encouragement.  Although we still have a long way to go with this demon called cancer, we know there is light at the end of the tunnel…and we are extremely grateful for that.

Much love to all of you💗
