“WIN THE DAY”

Thank you for supporting Chris Barkley, you being here means the world to him. As Chris battles each and every day…as he faces new challenges of the spinal cord injury, we will keep you updated!

Follow this Caring Bridge site for daily updates on his progress.

He is motivated and inspired by your support and your belief in his ability to meet the challenges as they present themselves and to conquer the road to recovery with grit, grace and hard work!!

The journal is authored by Scott and Cyndi Barkley and begins shortly after receiving the phone call that all parents dread. Scott and Cyndi rushed to Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d' Alene, ID to meet Chris as he was brought in by ambulance from Silver Mountain Ski Resort in Kellogg, ID. Through a long and fearful night they learned that Chris in fact broke his neck, C4 vertebrae. He suffered catastrophic spinal cord damage from the injury point down to his toes.

In Chris' true style, he is taking this journey one day at a time. He is focused on "WINNING THE DAY".

Every day there is an opportunity to learn, grow, stretch and challenge yourself. Chris believed this prior to the skiing accident and he has not wavered in his approach because of the accident. He is actively engaged in the 3 month long inpatient Spinal Rehabilitation program at Craig Hospital in Colorado. Outpatient rehabilitation may be a lifetime. Scott and Cyndi have temporarily moved to Colorado to be with Chris and to learn how to care for and support him as he works tirelessly to improve his strength and abilities. As any parent would, giving Chris the best opportunity to recover has been Scott & Cyndi's main focus.

Follow the journey and know that Chris and the entire family appreciate and feel your faith and strength.. The road is long and there are many unknowns. There will be a need for assistance in ways they cannot even yet imagine, and those will also be posted here.

The GoFundMe account created on his behalf is much appreciated and linked here under "Ways to Help".

Numerica Credit Union also has a Chris Barkley Rehabilitation account set up for in person or electronic transfers.

You can also follow Chris' journey on Instagram at: ‘teamcbarkley'.

Please Love the entries by tapping the heart and leave a comment…. We are reading all of your thoughts, prayers and motivations to Chris, they truly keep him going.

Journal entry by Scott Barkley

Hi Teammates,

We hope you all had a Merry Christmas this year.  Thank you for the wonderful support you have given to our family.  We don’t know what we have done without the amazing support.

The HighFives Foundation is finishing up their last fundraising campaign of the year and the top 25 participating HighFives Athletes will be guaranteed a spot in any HighFives adaptive sport camps they would like to participate in 2020.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to this cause, Team Chris has come through again and we are nearing the end of the fundraising campaign.

We are asking for one last push to support to Chris and donate to his fundraiser that will help this wonderful foundation that has given us the necessary funding to acquire some much needed equipment.

Please consider donating $5 knowing that your contribution will make a direct difference.  How awesome would it be if Chris was able to participate in an adaptive sports camp next year? We are hoping that through your support that Chris will be able to attend one of these camps with his friends.  The campaign ends on Dec 31st and we are asking for your support.  Each dollar donated is match 100%.
