Journal entry by cheryl kleier —
It has been a while since our last update. Lots has been happening in our lives with visits to our kids, spending most of February in Scottsdale, AZ and buying a home in Walla Walla. We've been busy which has been a good distraction as I approached my 1 year anniversary from my last stem cell transplant.
I have just finished my one year testing (bone marrow biopsy, PET scan, pulmonary testing, bone density scan, Clonoseq blood test, and a ton of other blood work) and everything has come back great! I am still in full remission and have not experienced any significant Graft vs. Host Disease. My doctor visits and lab tests have now been moved to every other month and we have received the "ok" to start traveling internationally. I just started receiving my vaccines yesterday and will have 3 more rounds of getting re-vaccinated (all childhood diseases, shingles, etc.).
Life is finally getting back to normal for us. I still tire easily and am working on getting my strength back but overall I feel great. We are planning a trip in the fall to Italy, a special place that Charlie and I love. I am back to golfing and Charlie and I are enjoying our time together on the course.
I didn't know how things would turn out 15 months ago when my cancer came back, but with the expertise of my medical team, Charlie's care, love and support, my family's continuous love and support and all our friends prayers, support and good wishes, I am a survivor. I can't thank everyone enough for all the support and love I've felt over the last 33 months through my journey. Thank you all and I look forward to getting back out in the world and celebrating life as we reconnect with our friends.
I am sharing some photos from the last few months. The first one is celebrating my 1 year anniversary of my transplant in Walla Walla with friends. The 2nd one is at Double Back winery in Walla Walla. The 3rd one is our club's Lords and Ladies golf tournament. The next one is in Walla Walla with friends. The last one is with our kids in Walla Walla.
Wishing everyone a wonderful summer full of fun, laughter and sunshine. Let us all enjoy and celebrate life everyday and never forget to let those we love know how much they mean to us.
