Cheri, Malcolm, and Matt’s Story

Site created on January 15, 2022

Dear Family and Friends of Matt Kelly,

We are sorry for the slow update, but due to the fast progression of his cancer, and nearly hourly changes, we have been unable to update everyone. We know you care and want to know more.

Two weeks ago Matt was diagnosed with cancer which at the time it was thought to be treatable, but within days it became aggressive and was determined to be untreatable. The cancer has now spread throughout his body. Through his final days, Matt is staying comfortable and peaceful thanks to the love and care of Cheri and Malcolm, and the support of home hospice care. He has moments of lucidity, that are brightened by visits from friends and family.

True to form, on his last day of work on January 3rd, Matt worked a 10-hour shift serving amazing craft cocktails in great spirits entertaining the crowd in the bar.

As of today (1/19/2022), Matt is at home on hospice surrounded by many family and friends. He has been unable to eat or drink for several days, with the exception of two cocktails, a Barrel Aged Paper Plane he created and a custom strawberry daiquiri prepared for him with love by a good friend and a morning coffee today. Matt knows the people around him and is minimally communicating.
