Charlie’s Story

Site created on September 26, 2018

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep Jack, Jenn, Matt, Sara and Henry and all of our family and friends in our hearts and updated in one place.  Thank you so much for caring and for visiting.   Charlie Gillis...grandson, son, brother, cousin, nephew, friend...was on the short end of a tragic automobile accident on Monday afternoon, September 26.  He was returning to his University of Kansas campus after a wonderful weekend with his folks in St. Louis.  He was rushed to the KU Medical Center in Kansas City where he remained on life support until his organs could be donated to multiple recipients.  Our family is heart broken, but we are all grateful for the huge outpouring of love and kindness from extended family and friends.  We pray for Charlie, his indomitable happy spirit, and all that he means to so many of us. Thanks for your incredible messages and wonderful thoughts of support. Charlie is a shining light for all of us.

Journal entry by Jessica Dils

Sharing this incredible gift today that Jenn sent along this morning. We are so grateful for the teams and the family that our family has even when they are far away. There is so much grace in coaching, because coaching is grace; it is living, breathing proof that love remains the most powerful tool to build a team and support those you love. Congratulations to Coach Andy on his HOF honor. Your players will take this love and strength through every day that they are fortunate to call their own. Andy Kay Hall of Fame #charliestrong
