Charles’s Story

Site created on October 20, 2022

As most of you know by now, our big brave man Charles was diagnosis with Leukemia on Tuesday October 18, 2022. As a family we wanted to create a place for everyone to get updates on how our little hero is doing from day to day and week to week. We are pretty open to sharing and have appreciated all the love and outpouring of support from all areas of our lives. Please do not feel like you are bugging us to reach out with a text and say hello.

On Monday, Sarah decided after a week or so of Charles looking very pale to go to the pediatrician. After a blood test, the pediatrician called us right after dinner to tell us to go immediately to the ER. Upon arriving at Lutheran ER, very quickly there was discussion of a blood transfusion and a flight or ambulance directly down to Riley hospital. We arrived at Riley via ambulance about midnight. After some hours of testing and sitting in an ER room we were moved to the oncology unit as in patient care.

After more testing the wonderful doctors at Riley hospital told us Tuesday afternoon about Charles' diagnosis. T.A.L.L. (T cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). On positive note, this is the more common and more treatable kind of Leukemia. However, the treatment is very long (2.5 years). We will remain in patient care for 8 to 14 days from Wednesday. Charles is able to receive most of his treatment at Parkview with a few visits to Riley now and then.
