.We are using the CaringBridge site to keep family and friends updated in one place on Charles Hanson progress. Charles Hanson , known to many as daddy, grandaddy, Reverend, Pastor, and Bishop started his fight with COVID/pneumonia on Sunday July 19, 2020. Charles is known by many as the bishop of the Congregational Holiness Church. To many he is known as their previous pastor, where he pastored the Plainview CH in Piedmont Ala, Macon 1st/Living Hope CH in Macon Ga, and Living Waters CH in Griffin Ga . For many years he was known as the World Mission Executive Director for World Mission. In the last three years, he has been known as bishop of the Congregational Holiness Churches all over the world.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, July 19, 2020, Charles woke his wife Susan and was running a fever. He ran a fever throughout the day on Sunday and felt very tired and had no energy. On Monday July 20, he was still running a fever. He decided that he would go to the urgent care and be tested for covid. He had known several friends who had tested positive. He was thinking he could possibly have a sinus infection. After going to the urgent care and having to wait forever he was tested. A EKG and X-ray were performed. His EKG was abnormal and the lower lobe of his lung showed pneumonia. His Covid test results came back positive.The urgent care called the ambulance and they transported him to the hospital. His phone had died and he had no way of calling Susan to let her know what was going on. The nurse at the Urgent Care called Susan . After being in the emergency room for several hours , he received breathing treatments. His blood gasses came back looking good so they sent him home with an antibiotic. This is where his story begins.

It’s been a little over 2 months since daddy passed away. I have thought about deleting this page but I know everyone doesn’t have Facebook and I know this is a way to continue to keep in touch with our family and friends. We all miss daddy so much and a lot has happened just in the last month. It’s hard when the first thing you think of is to call your daddy and ask him to pray. He always stood in the gap for anyone and would fight that battle with you.  I never thought the word Covid would continue to be a daily reminder of what took my daddy’s own life. It is so real and as my mom continues to say” it needs to go back to the pits of hell where it came from”. Since my dad‘s death I have reevaluated my life with my walk with Christ. I pray that others that have read these updates have done the same. I personally do not know how people get through a crisis or death without God. This is the hardest thing I have ever went through and I know it won’t be the last. With God’s help I am making it.
There are some needs that we do ask you to pray about. Pray for my granddad Bobby who is 91 years old and has dementia. 24 hour care is required with him since his wife passed away in March. My mom and her siblings rotate taking care of him. Pray for my mom, siblings, and grandchildren who help care for him. It’s very emotionally and physically tiring.
Remember my sister Julia and her husband Tony and their family. They have both been at home battling Covid. This has been extremely hard for Julia emotionally knowing that some of the same symptoms is what our dad had during his last days. I have been battling ear infections for two weeks. The pain has been excruciating. Pray that God puts a hedge of protection around our family. The enemy is doing every thing he can to tear us down. I’m reminded of this  song every time.

I love the part  where it talks about “You take what the enemy meant for evil and you turned it for good”. Satan thought he was winning the battle while my dad was in the hospital fighting for his life. But God took what Satan meant for evil and he made it good. Daddy got his ultimate reward when he stepped inside those gates.
On Tuesday, October 13 my son Jared and his wife Amanda had my first grandchild, Luke Walker. This is Mother and Daddy‘s first great grandchild. Luke is going to know so much about his great grandaddy.  My daddy used to say that he had the prettiest grandchildren. He would tell whoever he was talking to that when it was their turn to talk then they could say that they had the prettiest grandchildren. Daddy was so proud of all of them and their love for the Lord. If he knew you weren't attending church he would get on to you. He would say “ Now you need to find you a church”. He would do this to all of his grandchildren when they left home to go to college. He wanted to be sure that they stay grounded in the word.
There is so much more that I can write about but I just wanted to share with you all what our last month has looked like. We thank everyone for the prayers, phone calls, cards and words of encouragement. We have found that some people don’t know what to say and that is OK. It’s hard to tell someone that you know what they’re going through when you’ve never lost a husband or a father or mother or even a child. All of that doesn’t matter. We appreciate you for just being there. We have many of you on our prayer list now who are fighting Covid. Continue to remember us in your prayers and we love each and everyone of you. You all are family and one day we will see Daddy again. It may be sooner than some think. As the song goes” I’ve got more to go to heaven for than I had yesterday” God bless you all!!
