Charla’s Story

Site created on September 5, 2021

As I start my second go-round with endometrial cancer, I want to give praise and glory to God my savior. This is a very uncertain and scary time for my family, but I truly believe in the sovereignty of God, the power of prayer and his perfect plan for my life.

My cancer journey started in 2017 when I was diagnosed with stage 1A endometrial cancer. I underwent a full hysterectomy and 3 rounds of internal radiation. Unfortunately, in July of this year, I was once again diagnosed with this cancer. My cancer is at stage 3 and in August I had surgery to remove the lymph nodes in my pelvic area.

Now that I have recovered from surgery I am ready to start treatment. My doctors are being aggressive, working hard to make sure I don't have to fight this battle again in the future. Starting on September 13th I will be having daily radiation treatments for 5 weeks (except weekends). After radiation is complete I will be starting 6 rounds of chemotherapy.

I am, of course, concerned about undergoing these treatments, what they will do to my body, how they will make me feel, but I am confident in my doctors and confident in the sustaining power of God.

I appreciate the support, generosity and prayers of all of you who visit this site and help Travis and I during this time.

Thank you!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Charla Stewart

Afternoon all. I wanted to stop in for a couple of reasons. I did not realize that when I set up the GoFundMe account yesterday that it would send out a notice to everyone who had visited the caring bridge site for me. I thought I would be able to share it at a slightly later time, when I was ready. Sorry for the confusion! Some friends are putting together a fundraising barbacoa dinner for me and the thought was that people who didn't want to drive down to El Centro to pick up food, or those that were out of town, could help by donating to the GoFundMe. I appreciate those who have already donated. Thank you so very much.

I have attached an image of the fundraiser flyer to this post. Hope some of you can come out and grab a yummy dinner. We are trying to sell 200 plates.

As for me :-) I have completed 4 rounds of chemo, 2 more to go. For the most part I am feeling good, but I am very tired. Everything makes me tired, but that is to be expected. The main after affect I am having is neuropathy in my hands and feet, but I am learning to deal with it. After my last round in March there will be an evaluation of the cancer to see where we are. I pray that the treatments have done their job and Travis and I will soon be able to move forward from this chapter of our lives with a clean bill of health.

Family, friends, and our church family have been so supportive. The prayers of God's people have surely sustained us during this time, and we could not be more grateful. Thank you all for your love and support.
