Journal entry by Char Gore —
I realized it has been quite a long time since I last did an update. Life has been very crazy!
Since March I have been through 12 sessions of some pretty nasty chemo. I lost every inch of hair and had some pretty significant nausea and neuropathy. It was quite unpleasant, but I made it through. I then got three weeks off before I started radiation and a lighter dose of chemo.
It is now September and I am in the last few weeks of treatment. I started 25 radiation treatments in August - set to end on September 16th. I also started my last 6 chemo treatments that are done in conjunction with the radiation to make it work better (at half the dose of my previous chemo). My type of cancer is a bad one and the doctor threw everything at it we could to prevent it from sneaking back up on me. So even though I am exhausted and nauseous most of the time, I am optimistic about my survival.
After my treatment is done I will do a scan at 3 months and then a scan at 9 months. Then I think I will do scans every six months for a year or so and then yearly. I'll update you all after my scans.
I have been able to keep working through this all - which has helped me keep a positive outlook and my mind busy. I nap A LOT and am listening to my body. I have not been able to run or even walk the neighborhood yet due to my fatigue and my tummy (new digestion due to my surgery - still not regulated all that well yet). I hope to return to my running beginning October 1st. I plan to start over from scratch and build. I am going to do a 5K Turkey Trot - I just know it!
My people, my family, friends, and colleagues are out of this world! I truly feel loved every day. Thanks for reading!
