1 year update
Cayden’s doctors called us after the team could go over all his results. There are still some pretty significant changes to the rights side of the liver due to dilated bile ducts and unhealthy liver because of the clot in the hepatic artery. However, there are new blood vessels continuing to grow and provide blood flow around the clot. His labs are somewhat abnormal but stable. Despite these abnormalities, he has not had any liver infections (cholangitis) or hospitalizations since last summer. So, their consensus is to recheck MRI and ultrasound annually! We will also decrease lab work from every 2 weeks to monthly and move Arkansas Children’s liver doctor appointments from monthly to every 3 months. We are thrilled that Cayden continues to do so well despite all of his results on paper. We know who gets all the credit and glory for this. Our Lord has his hands on Cayden every day and is letting him enjoy being a goofy little toddler. This roller coaster is starting to straighten out and we prayer that more time will allow complete healing.
If he starts to get liver infections and problems, he will be re-listed for a 2nd transplant. But the longer we can wait, the better. As he grows, everything gets bigger and risk for clots lowers if they have to do the transplant again.
