Journal entry by Catherine Geske

No ulcers! PTL! However, I have a very bad hiatal hernia where my stomach is pushing through my diaphragm. This explains why I have had so much trouble taking a deep breath for a few years now. It is about a third of my stomach that is on top of the diaphragm and causes me pain if I don't eat slowly enough and gives me terrible reflux. I had several routine biopsies done but nothing to really be too concerned with.  I will have this done at the same time as my weight loss surgery and it will mean being under for about 1-2 hours longer than expected. This, of course, poses risks but nothing that can't be managed.  I need to take small bites, chew very thoroughly and consume enough liquid at meals to thin my food so it passes more easily. Taking it super easy today to pass the remaining anesthesia.
