Cassidy’s Story

Site created on February 8, 2020

Cassidy was taken to her pediatrician on February 5, 2020 after some ongoing leg and stomach pain.  Due to concerns with blood test results, she was taken to Grand View Hospital the following day, February 6.  After some testing there, she was transferred by ambulance to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  At CHOP, fluid was removed from her hip, but it showed no signs of infection so there was no explanation about the blood counts not being normal.  On Friday, February 7th, Cassidy had an MRI (to look for bone infection) that revealed a large tumor in her midsection.  The next few days involved several tests and procedures.  On February 12, Cassidy was diagnosed with High-Risk Neuroblastoma.  Her treatment plan included chemotherapy, surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy over a span of 15.  She completed treatment in May 2021.  Several parts of this treatment included inpatient hospitalization.  Cassidy's family includes her parents, Wendell and Katie, and 3 big sisters, Luella, Ginger and Audra. Our family is so thankful for the many many cards, gifts, words of encouragement, prayers, and acts of service we have received from so many people.

Hi All!  Thanks for continuing to follow our posts as they get fewer and further between!   Our family is signed up again this year to participate in the 31-day Challenge fundraiser for CHOP.  We are each committing to walk, run, or bike 31 miles during the month of may while also raising money that will go directly to the CHOP cancer center.  I will post an update soon with more info but May snuck up on us and is only a few days away!  We wanted to share the link to our team in case anyone wants to join us:
