So thankful to hear more healing has happened and will continue we pray. Healing includes our soul, spirit, body and the renewed hope of our future life. Baby steps start to go faster and stronger. As you know, family and friends want to support all of you. As many of us have not walked in your journey, we will and can pray and support you with love and compassion. Carter is a brave soldier marching forward to his new normal. Chuck and Leila, your parental love and support is such a warm blanket he will always remember. Accomplishments of Carter pushing his injured body to the goal he wanted, show his steps getting stronger in mind and strength. We'll pray for some good and total healing to be done, so he can reach some more goals. LOVED the piano solo Leila, To God be the Glory!

So glad Carter was able to walk to the pier. Those little things make so much difference. Just to see the things in nature that give us peace and comfort. Having lived in Boca Raton for almost 8 years and “living” on the beach and snorkeling I know and miss the smells, views, animals, birds, sounds, and so much more. Being in God’s creation is healing! I am continuing to pray for Carter and your family.

Leila,
I literally just found out about the trial you and your family have been facing. I have not been on Facebook and did not know about your son's accident. Please know that I will be in prayer for all of you and am sending you a great big hug!

I happened upon your posts when I looked up a CaringBridge site for a friend. I remembered the Viss boys from elementary school at Denver Christian. My daughter, Kristen was in Chase's class. I remembered that the boys played the piano and that you were a teacher. I was so saddened to hear of Carter's tragic accident. When I look up my friend's progress, I check in on Carter's and am glad to hear that he is progressing so well. I just listened to your beautiful piano piece and it brought tears as it so perfectly depicts the ocean/fish and then the accident. We have known loss/heartbreaking grief with our youngest daughter, so I appreciate your ruminations on grief and your honesty as you share the pain. You have a wonderful son, and I feel certain that the Lord will do mighty things through him as he heals and is an encouragement to others! Hugs!

Ah, that old picture. It is SO hard not to mourn the loss of some part of your body. I was always and forever a pianist...sum total of who I was, my only claim to fame, one stop wonder, period exclamation.
Until an injury took away my ability to play.
Then , I mourned and looked for help (and a little understanding?) in the medical community and found none. They didn’t believe me when I explained what happened. It truly was the insult after the injury. Horrible.
So in this way, I *sort of* understand and can relate. At least in your case they will believe you!
I have found peace. And some other ways of dealing with my loss. I so admire your strength to walk to the pier. Truly. I do hope you find your peace in the new reality. Thank you for allowing us to share in your walk. Thank you Chuck and Leila for continuing this journal.
