Journal entry by Shannon Ballantyne —
What a whirlwind of emotion this week has been. On Monday, February 18, our mom had a procedure due to bleeding complications. Less than a week later, she received results that would change our lives. On Monday, February 25, she shared with us her diagnosis of endometrial cancer. On Friday, Mom and Shannon attended the first oncologist appointment at Texas Oncology. We were shocked and saddened by the amount of patients in the building as it was hitting closer to home that this is now a part of us. We met with the doctor on a conference call with Tanner. The doctor was very matter of fact. According to the pathology reports, Mom has an aggressive form of endometrial cancer (mixed serous endometrial carcinoma). It would require immediate attention with a PET CT Scan and a hysterectomy, followed by no less than 6 months of chemotherapy and radiation. The doctor seemed amazingly accommodating and scheduled surgery right away. Surgery is tentative at this time pending the second opinion she will get on Tuesday at MD Anderson in Houston. Tomorrow she will go on for her scan at 1:00. Please lift her in prayer.
We promise to let her amazing friends and family know which ways you can help. We know you want to and are so grateful. We all have amazing support systems that will ease our transition into this time. We love you all and will keep you updated.
