Welcome to the Goode family CaringBridge site. We have had so many folks lifting up prayers and asking for updates on Carol that we wanted to setup this site for sharing. Plus, we want to share your posts with Carol both now and when she wakes up.
This will be a journey for Carol’s recovery but she is a very strong woman - physically, emotionally and spiritually. Her strength has already been demonstrated by where we are today so we wanted to share a little of Carol’s story.
On Sunday, December 20, 2020, Carol experienced a seizure and was diagnosed with a benign meningioma. We soon came to realize it was a recurrence of a brain tumor she had about 25 years ago. Carol received meds in the hospital and at home to care for the seizures, the blood clots in her lungs, and the inflammation around her brain. She came home to us a little over a week later.
Our plan was to have the tumor surgically removed in the April timeframe. Her surgeon recommended keeping her on blood thinners for 90 days to ensure there were no blood clots that would complicate her surgery.
On Monday, February 15th, 2021, Carol had another seizure. At that point her neurosurgeon and all her doctors re-evaluated their plans and determined they could move ahead earlier with the surgery. They did multiple scans and did not find any blood clots - not in her lungs or anywhere else.
Carol’s surgery took place on Monday, February 22nd and as we all expected, her strength and her spirit guided her through a successful surgery. Tuesday, the day after her surgery, we called family and some friends so Carol could give her personal update on how she felt and to express her thanks for all the prayers - she could feel every one of them. As the day progressed Carol began complaining of a headache that continued to get worse.
Late Tuesday we found that Carol had developed a brain bleed. As a result of the swelling and pressure on the brain she was put in a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator.
Between February 23rd and where we are today Carol is making slow and steady progress and her medical team continues to be encouraged. All her vitals are good and her blood pressure is stable. Her scans are all clear with no blood clots anywhere. She is breathing on her own but still has the tracheostomy but only for minimum oxygen, and is off of all the meds related to the medically induced coma. Carol still has a little bruising and inflammation that is treatable and reduces over time but this means her brain is still healing and she isn’t awake yet.
We know Carol feels all the love and prayers being lifted up as does everyone in our entire family. We plan to provide updates through this site and would encourage everyone to share your thoughts via the guestbook or comments on our journal entries. They will all be shared with Carol and we feel like our family and friends will find comfort in sharing as well.

Wow! So sorry I haven’t posted here in a while. Things have be crazy good, for the most part. Carol did have minor seizure on Good Friday that caused a little disruption in her progress (mainly speech) but she’s bounced right back and doing well. We’re still doing therapy Mon-Fri (3 days Physical and Occupational; 2 days Speech). Her walking with assistance continues to improve, along with balance and standing on her own. She continues to have a positive attitude overall and strong desire to again walk around our community with her friends. We were blessed to celebrate Carol’s 70th birthday on May 2 and she was thrilled to receive so many cards, gifts, flowers, calls and messages of love. We all appreciate YOU and your continued prayers!
