Carol’s Story

Site created on April 26, 2022

Carol is a daughter a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a friend.

She’s always been a fighter but since the first time in 2018 when the words “cancer” came into our world, she’s had to fight even harder.

Carol has been on a roller coaster of treatments, ringing bells, having to hear “it’s back” and figuring out the best path medically with treatments, radiation and chemo.

We’ve been facing the unknown bravely with tears of joy, tears of sorrow, and with hope and faith.   All along Carol has had an incredible support system complete with “Chemo Party Themes” to keep her hopes high and add some humor to this sometimes melancholy journey.

Carol’s initial diagnosis was serous endometrial cancer in 2018 after undergoing treatment and surgery to remove cancer, she was in remission and rang the bell at the Avera Cancer Center.

But her remission was short-lived.

In 2020 we got the news once again that cancer was back but had spread to her lungs and her fight resumed once again!

Carol has had every kind of treatment from chemo and radiation to immunotherapy, and tons of pills.  All to redo chemo and radiation multiple times.

And now we start chemo yet again with hope and faith.

As a family, we’re praying for Carol to get a spot in a trial to create a full-on offensive to mitigate the cancer in her body.

We’re asking for prayers and hope that her cancer stops growing and for our beloved Carol to keep fighting.

With the ongoing commitment and desire to keep everyone updated on Carol's journey we started this Caring Bridge site as it will be the best method to keep everyone on the same page.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Holly Anderson - Hintz

The surreal reality of cancer it absolutely is pain staking, it sucks, and while it feels like it has won it hasn’t!

Cancer brought our family so close we have so many memories we would have never created had mom never heard those awful words “You have cancer”

This disease brought so many new people into our lives that we have grown to love and adore!  Mom was blessed with the most amazing medical team that she truly loved, she literally looked forward to “those big bear hugs I love” from Dr Rojas.  Mom trusted that man and his team as if they walked on water and in our eyes they were helping mom so much they did walk on water.

Cancer didn’t win it slowed mom’s journey and may have cut it short but Mom still won she showed us all grace, strength, love, joy, courage and faith through this journey and the way she handled every twist, turn and shortfall that disease handed her made her a champion!

At 7:37 this morning we held moms hand as she left her earthly body to join the lord and to enjoy the best seat in the house to watch her grandkids in all they do and be with us sending us God Winks from above.

We never wanted to have to update and say her journey ended so quickly but mom made the absolute best of every day and min she had and her fierce love and strength will carry us through!
