Journal entry by Carla Welch —
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with an aorta disection on October 7, 2019. I underwent an aorta repair, a bypass of my subclavian artery and a pseudoaneurysm repair of my femoral artery on october 8, 2019. After surgery I experienced a lengthened period of delerium which led to the discovery that I had suffered many infarcts in the brain (strokes), some old and some new. After weeks of rehab and treatment in fairfax and winchester, I was released to the care of my family and finally back home with my kiddos!
Now, my blood pressure is far from controled and consistently rises to a critical level of 250/140! The pseudoaneurysms in my ventral arteries are still of concern especially with the continued hypertension. I am set to begin treaent soon at NIH to follow up on suspected pheochromocytoma, an endocrine tumor on the adrenal gland that causes the type of malignant hypertension I experience. A confirmed diagnosis and treatment would be life changing!
