Carla’s Story

Site created on May 16, 2018

Carla was diagnosed with breast cancer in April 2018. On May 16th, 2018, Carla had a mastectomy on her left breast. The type of breast cancer is less common and tends to spread easier and harder to detect. Doctors are taking extra care and caution to get a full picture. During surgery the lymph nodes came back abnormal but couldn't say if it was cancerous or not. At her follow up appointment we will get more information on the extent of cancer and treatment.

Carla is in high spirits, with running jokes to lighten the mood.  This strong Montana girl is going to kick cancers A$$!

Journal entry by Carla Hamilton

Getting so close to being done with this part of my journey with breast cancer.  Today was great as it was the last treatments that I will get 3 zaps to 3 different areas.  It was the last day I have to breath through the snorkel and have my nose pinned shut!!! Excited about that as I have had issues being able to get the breaths in.  Had lots of pain under rib cage. One day just couldn’t do it and they were only able to do 2 zaps.  Dr. Said this not result of radiation and she was concerned about my health. They escorted me right to the ER and did EKG- heart fine.  Did CAT scan and ER Dr. Felt might be stress and causing heartburn like issues.  Oncologist ordered more CAT Scans and felt pain had to do with my bad kidney and bladder and said get into my urologist which I did and he didn’t feel it was that but he would call Swedish ER.  He called and something the radiologist said to him he has decided to do bladder tests which will be done next week.  So weird as these pains come and go. But good news is I have 5 treatments left and they will
be just 1 zap to one spot and no more special breathing!!  They call it the boost. The radiation will be at a higher dose so we will see how bad it burns me.  My arm pit has ended up burning pretty bad and at times quite painful so glad also they will no longer be radiating that area! The fatigue did hit me and I have cut back and not working full time.  Trying to balance work and my health.
Thank you everyone for you prayers, support and love.  I feel blessed and each of you have helped me get through this.  The plowing for the fall is coming to an end!
