Cara’s Story

Site created on January 21, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
I have been diagnosed with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma that was found in a groin lymph node while trying to find out why my right leg has been swollen for 6 months.  All the testing has not been able to reveal the source, but it is in a few more lymph glands.  The Oncologist tells us that it is a "good" stage 4 and that it's treatable!  They are doing Molecular testing to see if chemo or Immunotherapy would be the best treatment.  First indications are Immunotherapy will be the best, but all the testing is not complete.  In the meantime, I will have chemo treatments every 3 weeks for 6 treatments.
I will keep you posted as to how I'm doing and what the effects are.  Hopefully, I will skate through this and this bad dream will be over!!
Your love and prayers will get me through!  Feel free to text and email, and phone calls are always appreciated!
Love and blessings,
Cara

I sit here on the night before my 74th birthday feeling so grateful for all the blessings i have to be thankful for.  Four years ago, when I was diagnosed with Stage 4, Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma, I wasn't sure I'd even still be here?  I've been so blessed to continue treatment every six weeks with immunotherapy and am now in remission.

This year has been filled with love, support and lots of prayer warriors.  We've been blessed to see all of our children and grandchildren doing well and staying healthy.  We celebrated graduations, birthdays, and Rick and I had our 30th Anniversary!

Christmas was quiet since I had surgery on my "good" right foot on December 7th, but thankfully I could get around on my heel until it has time to heal.  Rick has really been the best caregiver I could ever ask for!  I think if he'd known about the gene pool with feet issues, he might not have signed on! LOL!   We both have the aches and pains of age and parts wearing out! Generally, we're lucky to be as mobile as we are!  Our endurance isn't what it used to be, but we are blessed.

Thank you to each and everyone of you who have loved, supported & prayed  for us.  You are so important in our lives and we treasure each of you.  We send best wishes to each of you for a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!

Love & Blessings,

Cara
