Camila’s Story

Site created on August 31, 2018

Camila discovered a lump that grew in her underarm area over the summer. After a speedy whirlwind of doctor visits, imaging and a referral to a surgeon/pediatric oncologist, she was found to have an unusually large axillary lymph node mass that must be removed. Further testing will be done.

The worst case scenario is lymphoma, or lymph node cancer, but our doctors advise we stay positive!

This page was created to keep our friends and family updated and also serves as a place for you to send Camila uplifting words, jokes, silly emojis or positive thoughts.

She is doing great and enjoying sixth grade so far! We are hopeful everything will be okay!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Mayra Trevino Sotelo

After an anxious Monday morning, Dr. Rana called us this afternoon and was happy to report the mass removed from Camila’s underarm shows no growth of cancer cells!! 🙌🏼
He did, however, inform us that he would be referring us to an infectious disease specialist as they still cannot determine the pathology of the growth. 😞 Apparently he noticed slight enlargement of several other lymph nodes during the procedure on Friday, which means that (whatever this is) is spreading. The infectious disease team should be able to do more testing and lay out a treatment plan for us, so we still have a little road ahead but so far it’s looking treatable.
We appreciate all the good energy and love and will update as we know more.
