Caleb’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

A few weeks ago Caleb was visiting me in Dallas and mentioned that he had been vomiting a lot and had intermittent loss of vision! That didn’t sound right so, I asked his Mom to make him an appointment with the ophthalmologist! On Thursday June 25, he got that appointment. The Eye Doctor sent him immediately to the ER at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida! Caleb was diagnosed with a Stage 4 Medulo Blastoma tumor, a golf ball sized ball in the back of his brain!

Within 12 hours, he underwent a 5 hour surgery to remove the tumor! The skilled Doctors at Arnold Palmer were able to remove 98% of the offending tissue. They determined that excising the rest posed too great a danger and elected to continue to treat Caleb with radiation and Chemo therapy!

Caleb endured the surgery and was able to speak immediately after the respirator was removed! He has made excellent progress in the days since. Currently the biggest concerns are his vision and balance when he walks.

On Thursday July 2nd, Caleb had a shunt placed in his head to drain excess Cerebrospinal Fluid! He also had a chem port placed in his chest! In the next few days, he will undergo physical therapy and occupational therapy to prepare him to be able to go home for the next phase of his recovery!

We feel blessed that the level of care at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children was extraordinary! We are confident that from a medical standpoint, Caleb is in the care of the absolute best in the business medical team! More importantly, Caleb has a strong faith in God and understands full well Who ultimately will see him through this crisis.
