Butch’s Story

Site created on November 17, 2018

Welcome to Butch's site where you can find daily updates on how he is doing. He isn't ready for visitors just yet, but if you would like to leave a message for him on this site, I am sure he will enjoy reading it when he wakes up. Please also feel free to share this website and my phone number with anyone who would want to know what is going on.  I will keep updates general until he is able to approve sharing more detailed information. If you have a specific question, please feel free to ask! Thank you for thinking about him (and me!).

Journal entry by Tara Lynn

Butch has been asleep almost the whole time since he got out of surgery because when he starts to wake up he is in excruciating pain.  Again, terrible.

On Friday, November 16, the staff continued to work on finding a way to manage his pain well enough so he could wake up, which he started to do today for brief periods of time, no more than a few minutes. He still only opened his eyes a handful of times for just a few seconds, but he could nod yes and no to questions. Since he was now somewhat responsive he was able to have ice chips, which he could not get enough of -- yay, progress!!

In the evening the nurses did a neuro exam and he talked for the first time. As a small gesture of thanks for your thoughtfulness and support, I give you, Daily Dose of Butch:

Nurse: Mr. Butch, do you know where you are?
Butch: Shands [that is the name of the hospital]
Nurse: Great! Why are you here?
Butch: Heart attack
Nurse: What year is it?
Butch: 18
Nurse: 2018 or 1918?
Butch: STOP TALKING!
Tara: Bwahahaaaa!!!
Butch: Stop laughing, this is terrible!
Tara: I know
Butch: No you don't

I know he was thinking, I am in pain and exhausted why won't these women stop talking and let me rest (What Is It Louie!?)!?
