A message from Lee and Alex in Boulder / Denver:

Burt because you are such a jack-ass, I would never say this to your face, but over the years, I /we have greatly admired your mental toughness / grit...

So we are going to be really pissed off if you allow a little fucking mosquito to take you out !!!!

Love Lee & Alex

Hello all. Burt is in process of being transported to Colorow Care Center in Olathe to start his rehab. I haven't seen him today but those who have say that he is progressively interacting and talking (and grumbling) more, etc. ;)

Thank you Kenny and Kay for all your time and energy to support Burt and set up this site!

Here's wishing Burt a steady and hopefully somewhat speedy recovery! We all know this will be a lengthy process.

Damn the mosquito!

Thank you Jackie for the update. We are so grateful to finally to get the diagnosis!
I was very happy to see Burt's improvement in the last 24 hours. His old self is slowly shining through. ❤

The diagnosis is in and it is West Nile Virus. This means the Dr’s will stop the antibiotics and other treatments they were giving because there is no medical treatment for West Nile.

The next step will be to find him an aggressive rehab facility. That assumes he can do three hours of physical therapy a day. Currently he is not walking or talking much so that will be a stretch. It is a good thing that he is so stubborn because he will need that to move forward.

Just met with Dr Bolton in Burt's room. He said meningitis but not yet specified as v or b. Results for WNV should be available in 1 or 2 days. They continue to treat him for all the above.
Burt seems a little bit better, however still very weak . Barely able to verbalize. But he he has an assortment of facial expressions to aid in conversation. (Rolling of the eyes is amusing).

They're giving him a PT workout and breakfast soon.

Off to work for me. Be back later

Ken

Kenny and Kay-
Thank you so much for being there and stepping up big time to help. Setting up this site will be a big help. I am waiting to hear from the doctors and will share information once I know something.

Again thanks!
